A French garden bench of generous three-seater scale, formed with closely spaced wooden slats that sweep in a continuous curve from the arched back into a rolled front seat, supported on cast iron end frames with arched stretchers and splayed pad feet. Finished in a soft sage green, the surface shows scattered paint losses, light oxidation to the iron, and minor scuffs from outdoor use. The structure is sturdy and sits evenly, presenting as weathered yet very good overall. Likely French, early to mid-20th century.
This design belongs to the tradition of municipal and park furnishings that flourished in France from the late 19th century through the interwar years, when foundries and workshops supplied durable seating for jardins publics and boulevards. The ergonomic, slatted form reflects industrial-age pragmatism softened by Belle Époque elegance, with cast iron ends providing strength and graceful silhouettes while the wood slats offered comfort and warmth.
Inviting and versatile, the bench anchors a terrace, gravel courtyard, or pergola, pairing beautifully with clipped box, urns, and stone planters. Indoors, it can lend character in a sunroom, mudroom, or wide entry, where its gentle curve softens architectural lines. Dress it with linen cushions for seasonal comfort, or keep it spare to let the charming color and classic profile speak for themselves.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
