Dating from the end of the seventeenth or early eighteenth century, this very rare Louis XIV period writer's inkwell features stunning Boulle marquetry and rests on four bronze feet shaped like lion's paws. Boulle work is a type of rich marquetry process or inlay perfected by the French cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle featuring elaborate marquetry designs, often incorporating arabesques.
