An indented triangular wrought iron pot and pan cooler, or trivet, from the range of the signature yellow kitchen in the main house at Chanteduc. Patricia Wells gathered several such pieces over the years, arranging them on the rangehood in her signature yellow kitchen.
Dating from the 19th-Century and hand forged with confident bends, its triangular outline is subtly notched to steady a hot casserole. The iron has a deep russet surface with honest oxidation from heat and time, the touch softened where hands have lifted it. Three low feet give a poised stance while keeping a pan clear of the surface.
Use it beside the stove to rest a pot between courses, or bring it to the table to protect linen during a long lunch. Group it with other trivets as a sculptural note, or set it under a terracotta herb pot indoors or on a sheltered terrace. A humble companion that speaks to craftsmanship, usefulness and provenance, it carries the warmth of Patricia’s teaching, cooking and welcoming table.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
