This provincial pouring pot in terracotta, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, is likely from southwest France. The ovoid body, shaped in the same form as a confit pot, rises to a rolled rim with a discreet pouring lip and is flanked by two small loop handles. A soft apple-green glaze blankets the upper half, stopping cleanly above the waist to reveal the warm buff clay below. Scattered pinpricks, minor glaze losses, and earthy deposits attest to age. Part of the regional tradition of glazed earthenware for the farmhouse kitchen, the vessel combined practicality with quiet grace.
The shared shape with the confit pot suggests a double usage, suitable for both storage and pouring. The glaze protected the working surface, the unglazed base allowed it to rest securely on cool earth, and the twin handles with pinched lip made it practical for decanting oils, broths, or melted fat.
Such straightforward forms were produced by village potteries across the southwest, their durable clay bodies and simple finishes creating pieces both utilitarian and enduringly attractive. Its gentle color and honest silhouette make a fresh accent for open shelving, a marble console, or a rustic island. It can be styled with herbs or branches using a liner, or grouped with confit pots and earthenware for layered texture. The worn surface pairs easily with oak, patinated iron, and linen, bringing a note of country character to both traditional and modern interiors.
