This small lidded stoneware pot, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, presents a rounded body crowned with a domed cover edged by a scalloped frieze that conveys a distinctly handwrought character. Two ear handles are applied at the shoulder and two more on the lid, their thumb-pressed terminals clearly visible and expressive of the potter’s touch. The surface is enlivened by a glossy glaze that shifts between straw, honey, and tawny brown, with speckling and gentle runs that pool richly along the relief, enhancing the tactile depth and visual warmth of the form.
Compact and tactile, this pot brings rustic authenticity to open shelving, a console vignette, or a breakfast nook. It works well as a charming lidded catchall for tea packets, matches, or keepsakes, either alone or grouped with other stoneware to add depth and texture to a neutral interior. Its earthy palette and softly reflective glaze complement limestone, oak, and linen, making it an easy fit in farmhouse, country, or contemporary rustic settings..
