This set of scales dates from the late nineteenth/early twentieth century. The base is weighty cast iron and the plates are brass. Note the horizontal needles are in the shape of birds. Stamped by the maker Eloy in Pontciecpr. T.

Originally these scales were used for commercial purposes. The brass plates are stamped - these stamps were routinely given by officials who calibrated and certified the scales for trading. 

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
