Evoking the discreet charm of mid century hospitality, this petite oak hotel reception cabinet dates to the 1940s to 1950s and retains its original roll top shutter and working key. Gently rounded side panels frame a slatted roll-top front that lifts smoothly to reveal fifteen neatly arranged pigeonholes, each fitted with enameled number tags, while simple metal pulls flank the central lock. Such cabinets were designed to organise room keys and mail for guests and to be securely closed at night. The oak has a warm honey tone with visible grain and gentle darkening at the edges, while light surface scuffs and age spots reflect years of daily use at a reception desk, adding to the piece’s authentic period charm.
Place it on an entry console to sort keys and correspondence, or on a desk to tidy stationery, stamps, and chargers. It also repurposes beautifully in a kitchen for spice tins or in a dressing room for watches and glasses. The compact scale, quiet mechanism, and locking shutter bring an easy sense of order and a soft glow of history that complements both classic and contemporary interiors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
