This petite earthenware pitcher has a gently bellied form with a pinched spout and a pulled handle, finished in a glossy, subtly iridescent drip glaze that flows from honey and warm tan to deep coffee and smoky gray. Shifting softly in the light, the glaze enhances the tactile surface, while quiet irregularities speak to its handmade character and the humble beauty of rural pottery.
Made in the early 20th century in Dieulefit, a historic pottery center in southeastern France, it reflects a long local tradition of producing durable, everyday wares for the kitchen and table. Dieulefit workshops were known for their practical forms, expressive glazes, and wood-fired kilns, where variations in flame and ash gave each piece its individual character.
The rim shows timeworn wear with a small chip to the spout, along with minor glaze skips at the foot. A rich, naturally developed patina highlights the wheel-thrown ridges, enhancing the piece’s tactile depth and sense of age. Display it on open kitchen shelves, style it as a bud vase for garden stems, or use it on a desk to hold brushes and pencils, where its rustic sheen adds warmth and character to a refined interior.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
