Petite and full of rustic charm, this hand-thrown earthenware pitcher has a warm, timeworn presence. The glaze pools in tones of honey, caramel, and umber, accented by incised rings around the squat cylindrical body and a simple strap handle. Made in Dieulefit in southeastern France in the late 19th to early 20th century, it comes from a town long known for its utilitarian pottery, where simple forms and expressive glazes were produced for everyday farmhouse kitchens.
Timeworn, with small chips and losses at the rim and spout, this pitcher shows glaze wear, surface staining, and age-related craquelure. Darkened heat marks along the body and base attest to its original life warmed directly on the stove, contributing to a rich, authentic patina that speaks to decades of everyday use. Style it as a small bud vase for dried stems, a brush or utensil holder by the sink, or as an accent on open shelving, where its mellow tones and honest texture lend depth and character to a thoughtfully collected room.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
