Antique Petite French Carved Walnut Tray w/ Vine-Leaf Decoration - 18"

This small French walnut tray dates from the early 20th century and is finely carved directly from the solid wood, with a dense border of vine leaves surrounding the plain central field. The carving is detailed and lively, with the foliage worked in varied relief to give the border depth without overwhelming the compact proportions. Shaped handles are carved into each of the shorter ends, while two transverse supports beneath raise the tray slightly from the surface. A few small old chips and traces of use are visible, entirely consistent with age and handling.
