Antique Rococo-Style Gilt-Bronze Eighteen-Light Chandelier - 32¼" x 26¾"

This superb 19th-century eighteen-light gilt-bronze chandelier is designed in the Rocaille taste of the Louis XV style, with an exuberant network of scrolling arms, acanthus leaves and asymmetrical foliate ornament. The lights are arranged across two tiers, with twelve below and six above, creating a broad, layered silhouette around the tall central stem. Each candle-style light rises from a finely decorated gilt-bronze holder above a flower-shaped bobeche, while the branching arms curl outward and upward with the graceful movement of climbing foliage. Despite the abundance of ornament, the composition remains light, graceful and well balanced. The gilding is particularly bright and lively, emphasizing the depth of the cast decoration and giving the chandelier a rich golden presence. One arm is slightly bent, a visible trace of age that does not disturb the overall composition.

The chandelier has been carefully restored and rewired in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence by a passionate specialist in historic lighting working closely with Mathieu Lustrerie, the renowned Provençal atelier specializing in the restoration and creation of fine historic lighting. Particular attention has been given to the quality and safety of the electrification while preserving the antique character of the bronze and gilding. Each light is fitted with a high-quality fire-resistant faux candle sleeve and a dimmable flame-effect bulb, maintaining the appearance of candlelight while allowing the level of illumination to be adjusted.

Its brilliant gilding and richly sculpted foliage give it a strong presence, making it particularly suited to a large room where the full richness of the French Rocaille style can truly shine.
