This late-19th-century silvered glass candlestick has a slender, ribbed silhouette that rises in a gentle taper, accented by several bands of gadrooned lobes. The form rises in a soft taper, its curves and ribbing catching the light with a subdued, time-softened sheen. The surface shows desilvering in places and areas of oxidation where the mirrored lining has mellowed over time, giving it the kind of depth and shadowing prized in antique silevered glass.
Verre mercurisé, or 19th-century silvered glass, is a double-walled blown-glass technique in which a liquid silver-nitrate solution is introduced into the interior cavity, creating a softly luminous, reflective surface with a characteristic gentle shimmer.
Styling it is effortless: its lean profile suits narrow shelves, bedside tables, or a festive holiday arrangement. By candlelight, the darker undertones enrich the glow. When displayed with other silvered glass candlesticks, it brings a quiet interplay of height and patina that makes the grouping feel inviting and alive.
