This small confit pot dates from the late 19th century and is glazed both inside and out. Its rounded form is enhanced by a rare stylised vegetal frieze in warm ochre, delicately painted around the body. The surface bears a fine network of tiny crackles that have softly darkened with time, creating a beautiful patina that speaks to its age and authenticity. The interior glaze shows signs of wear, revealing its long history of use. A few small chips further add to its rustic character and enduring charm.
Confit pots were traditionally used in rural French kitchens to store preserved meats such as duck or goose confit before refrigeration. These humble yet beautiful vessels are now prized for their rustic elegance and the sense of history they bring to the home.
Today, it makes a lovely decorative piece, ideal for displaying on a kitchen shelf, dresser, or sideboard. It can also hold dried flowers or utensils, blending practicality with the timeless appeal of antique French pottery.
