A stunning "terres mêlées" marbleized clay pitcher and plate from Uzes, France, dating from the 1900s. Note the pretty details and colors as seen in close-up photos. The tradition of mixing different colored clays to create beautiful marbleized pottery like this is a technique regional to Provencal towns like Apt and Uzes (near Avignon), and the tradition dates back to the mid-eighteenth century, before the French Revolution. A lovely piece to add to a collection of unique French pottery.
