A charming Vallauris handled pot in glazed terracotta, wheel-thrown with a softly ovoid body, rolled everted rim, and small loop handle. Dating from the early twentieth century, the surface carries a pale straw-yellow glaze with a shoulder frieze of green and chestnut-brown ovals, the gloss punctuated by tiny pinholes from firing. Rooted in the Vallauris tradition of terre vernissée, this modest kitchen form reflects the everyday pottery of Provence, where yellow glazes accented with copper green and manganese brown were favored for their cheerful warmth and durability.
This lovely pot works beautifully as a small cache-pot for herbs, a caddy for utensils, on an open shelf, or a brush holder beside a farmhouse sink. Style it on a kitchen dresser among other Provençal terre vernissée for a gentle rhythm of yellows and greens, or place it on a windowsill where the glaze can catch the light. It also pairs well with copper, linen, and patinated wood to bring a quiet note of Provence to contemporary or country interiors.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
