This Art Nouveau walnut pedestal stand, likely dating from around 1900, has a lovely tall, slender form that flares gently toward the floor. Its square top has a molded edge and is supported by four long legs that curve outward at the feet. Decorative cutouts beneath the top add a graceful detail, while a lower shelf with a beautifully shaped outline provides additional display space. The walnut has a warm, mellow brown patina, with attractive grain and signs of age and use. A few old woodworm holes, particularly on the top, have been treated and filled.
The combination of its delicate proportions and gently curving lines gives this stand plenty of Art Nouveau charm, making it easy to incorporate into a variety of interiors. Its height makes it ideal for showing off a leafy fern or a beautiful ceramic vase in a garden room or living room. It could also support a small sculpture in a library or a lamp beside a reading chair, with the lower shelf offering space for a few books or another favorite object.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
