This late 19th-century French walnut bedside cabinet is inspired by the Louis XV style, with graceful cabriole legs, a gently shaped body and lovely carved decoration. Its warm, honey-brown wood is embellished with scrolling foliage on the door, carved leaves along the front corners and a small shell motif on the scalloped apron. The upper drawer has a decorative brass knob, while the lower cupboard opens to reveal a compartment lined with pale marble, originally designed for easy cleaning and hygiene. The reddish-brown marble top has attractive gray veining and is in very good condition, with a few discreet stains. The wood shows light age-related wear. The drawer opens with slight resistance, while the cupboard door closes securely.
With its graceful proportions, slender cabriole legs and beautifully carved details, this little cabinet has plenty of French country charm. The warm walnut and richly veined marble make a lovely combination. It would make an attractive bedside table, although it is taller than a typical nightstand, or could serve as a small side table beside an armchair in a sitting room.
