Wilhelmus Adrianus van Berkel was a butcher in Rotterdam in the late nineteenth-century. He invented a cutting edge slicer then evolved his business to manufacture scales. This fine Berkel scale dates from the 1950's and was used by merchants including butcher's, fishmongers, boulangers and charcuterie specialists.
It is made with mixed materials including stainless steel.
Functional although not calibrated. Very heavy.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
