Dating from the nineteenth century, this lovely coffee pot retains the original lid and features a pouring beak that is positioned perpendicular to the handle. The glaze is yellow ocher with splashes of brown. Known as a 'Cafetiere Suisse', this pot was made in Dieulefit. Similar coffee pots are on display in the pottery museum in Dieulefit, a picturesque village renowned for pottery in the south of France. Note a chip on the side of the lid. The size '2' is stamped underneath. This would have been used on the stove / on coals for preparing coffee.
