Carved Wooden Console Assembled from Antique Elements - 56¾"

This carved wooden console, adapted from an earlier buffet or cabinet, has a long, shallow rectangular top above two drawers, framed by richly sculpted side pillars. The decoration is expressive, with birds set among blooming branches and dense floral and foliate motifs continuing down the supports. Two open display levels provide generous room for storage or styling, while giving the piece a strong architectural presence.

The more recent finish has been deliberately worked to create a softly timeworn patina, with traces of darker paint, rubbing and tonal variation caught in the recesses of the carving. Although recent, it suits the piece particularly well, bringing out the ornament and giving the console a more relaxed, layered character.

Its sculptural profile and richly carved decoration make it a natural piece for anchoring a space and creating a layered vignette. In an entryway, dining room or living room, the two open levels offer plenty of room for ceramics, books or collected objects, while the birds and flowering branches add an atmospheric, well-traveled character.
