A handsome French confit pot dating from the 19th century, distinguished by its warm orange glaze, enriched by decades of use and age. The rounded body rises to a softly everted rim and is flanked by a pair of charming loop handles whose slightly irregular form reveals the hand of the potter and lends the piece a distinctive, handcrafted character. Adding further interest are a few drips of pale cream glaze that flow from the rim across the orange surface, an overflow of the original interior glaze, now largely worn away.
The remarkable patina developed through decades of use, with areas of glaze wear, mineral deposits, and fine craquelure, creates depth and visual interest while speaking to the pot's long working life. Together, these timeworn surfaces give the piece a uniquely expressive appearance.
At some point in its history, a drainage hole was added to the base, suggesting a later use as a planter.
An authentic piece of French country pottery, full of character and rustic appeal. Ideal as a kitchen utensil holder, a vessel for dried flowers, or as part of a colourful collection of French ceramics.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
