This antique French letter box dates to the early twentieth century and is crafted from metal with a painted faux bois (false wood) finish that evokes the grain of timber in a warm ochre tone. The word Lettres (Letters) is stenciled in black Gothic script across the door. The top is fixed in place, while a discreet slot with a hinged flap at the back suggests it was originally designed to be mounted against a door or wall, allowing mail to be deposited from the opposite side. The aged paint, gentle dents, and areas of paint loss reflect its years of use and contribute to its timeworn charm and authenticity.
A wonderful decorative accent, this letter box brings vintage French character to any setting. It can be styled in an entryway as a nostalgic nod to traditional correspondence, or hung in a kitchen or veranda as a quirky accent piece. Whether left as-is or repurposed for creative storage, it adds a touch of rustic elegance and storytelling to interiors that celebrate patina, personality, and history.
