This petite mid-century garden statue portrays a young grape harvester cradling a brimming basket of grapes, modeled in reconstituted stone with a pale limestone hue. The figure stands in a gentle contrapposto on an integral cylindrical plinth, his tunic and breeches simply rendered, the features softened by age. The surface shows outdoor wear with a delicate veil of moss that settles in recesses, along with scattered abrasions at the edges of the base.
A classic motif, the grape harvester often appears in Four Seasons groups, symbolizing Autumn and the abundance of rural life. Mid-20th century makers favored composition stone for its durability and its resemblance to carved limestone, while allowing crisp, repeatable modeling suited to garden ornament. This figure recalls earlier romantic models found in French parks and courtyards, its modest scale and relaxed stance designed to enliven a planting bed or path with a benevolent, pastoral presence. Well-suited to a terrace or courtyard as a welcoming accent, it also lends charm to a wine room or tasting space, where the harvest theme finds a natural resonance.
