A delightful petite earthenware money box from the late 19th century in the form of a crouching rabbit, decorated with a richly marbled glaze in warm tones of terracotta, honey, cream, and brown. Its simple, rounded form and lively surface give it an irresistible folk-art charm. A coin slot is cut into the rabbit's back, and the underside appears to be signed, though the mark is now illegible.
Combining whimsy with the warmth of traditional Provençal pottery, this charming object was intended to encourage saving, with the contents retrievable only by breaking the vessel. Condition is consistent with age and use, including a loss to the tip of the nose and minor wear. Today, it makes a charming decorative accent, bringing warmth, personality, and a touch of whimsy to a shelf, cabinet, or collection of folk ceramics.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
