This petite Provençal walnut low armchair from the late 19th century has a narrow, elegant silhouette with a subtly arched back and slender open arms capped by upholstered elbow pads. The frame shows turned legs and curved stretchers, finished with a mellow walnut patina. Upholstery is in classic red-on-ivory Toile de Jouy with pastoral vignettes, faded overall from sun exposure except on the seat, where the fabric was likely protected by a now-lost cushion. While sound in structure, its petite proportions and age make it best suited for decorative purposes or occasional use.
Perfect as an accent chair in a bedroom, a reading corner, or an entry hall, it introduces quiet French country charm without overwhelming a space. Pair it with limewashed walls, a fruitwood writing table, or a Gustavian commode to emphasize its provincial grace.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
