This charming ensemble of small ceramic vessels dates from the early twentieth century and brings together pieces from two different sets, unified by their deep and luminous cobalt blue glaze. This rich midnight tone is achieved through the use of cobalt oxide, a rare metal oxide prized for its exceptional stability and coloring power. Each vessel varies slightly in size and decoration, with some featuring delicate floral motifs and others adorned with restrained scrollwork inspired by rococo ornament. The glossy surfaces and subtle variations in pattern give the group a quiet rhythm, while the interiors show a natural patina that in some cases includes light crazing, and some of the decorative motifs have softened or partially worn with time.
Grouped together or displayed individually, these vessels are beautifully suited as small cache pots, kitchen containers for utensils or dry goods, or bathroom holders for everyday toiletries. Their saturated blue color adds depth and elegance to both classic and contemporary interiors, pairing especially well with natural materials and pale surfaces. If used as vases, a liner is recommended. Thoughtful and versatile, this set brings a sense of calm, history, and refined color to everyday spaces.
