A large contemporary canvas in the Pompeian fresco manner, executed in gouache over a sand-textured plaster ground laid on canvas. The composition presents a draped classical female figure, likely an allegory or muse, her flowing garments rendered in soft celadon and blush tones against a deep Pompeian red field within an ochre geometric border. The margins are intentionally irregular, evoking a fragment of ancient wall painting, and a monogram signature appears at the lower right. Condition is very good, with a deliberately weathered surface, scattered abrasions, and minor edge losses that enhance its fresco-like character.
The work draws directly on the tradition of wall paintings unearthed at Pompeii and Herculaneum in the 18th century, which profoundly shaped European decorative arts. Such compositions were widely reinterpreted in later periods, particularly within neoclassical and revival interiors, where they conveyed the refined elegance and archaeological allure of antiquity.
A striking statement piece, it is well suited to a stone or plastered wall, where its textured surface can echo surrounding architecture. It displays beautifully above a console in an entry, as a focal panel in a dining room, or within a layered library setting alongside travertine, patinated bronze, and linen. In Mediterranean or neoclassical interiors, it introduces warmth, movement, and a sense of classical gravitas.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
