This delightful stoneware terrine takes the charming form of a duck, showcasing both whimsical artistry and functional design. Carefully hand-modeled and glazed in warm hues of amber, brown, and white, the piece captures the detailed texture of feathers and the graceful form of a swimming duck. The lid lifts neatly from the body, revealing a lidded vessel suitable for serving pâté, terrine, or other oven-to-table dishes. While fully functional, crafted to withstand oven and bain-marie cooking, its sculptural form makes it equally appealing as a decorative object.
Stamped with the artist’s initials “JDA” on the underside, it is the work of Julie Desert Armanville, whose contemporary ceramics celebrate both charm and craftsmanship. She played a significant role at the Roger Capron design studio in Vallauris between 1972 and 1982. Vallauris, renowned for its pottery, provided the perfect backdrop for her exploration of form and function, leaving a lasting impact on ceramic artistry.
