Contemporary Oil Painting of a White Hen by Karibou - 20¾" x 13¾"

This contemporary oil painting by Karibou depicts a white hen in profile against a softly atmospheric blue-gray background. The bird is built up with feathery, loosely blended brushwork in whites, creams and pale gray, giving the plumage a soft, cloud-like quality. Subtle touches of red at the comb and wattle and a warm ochre beak punctuate the restrained palette, while the dark lower ground anchors the composition. The canvas is presented in a simple warm-toned wooden box frame, giving the painting a clean, slightly modern finish while preserving the simplicity and directness of the image.

There is a gentle, almost storybook quality to the subject, with the hen assuming the unexpectedly dignified air of a formal portrait sitter. Karibou’s soft handling and muted palette turn an everyday farmyard subject into something quietly poetic, finding interest in the familiar without overcomplicating it.

The painting would bring a light rural note to a kitchen, breakfast room or country interior, while its playful character would also make it particularly appealing in a child’s bedroom.
