A late 19th-century Provençal boutis quilt in soft cotton, decorated with an all-over floral pattern inspired by traditional indienne textiles. Reversible in design, it features complementary prints in warm reds and ochres on a light ground. Very good condition with bright, unfaded colours, a few small stains, and gentle wear consistent with age.
Boutis is one of Provence's most celebrated textile traditions, characterised by intricate hand-stitching that traps cotton or wool batting between two layers of fabric. The resulting quilted relief creates a richly textured surface that combines decoration with lightweight warmth. This meticulous needlework gives the textile its distinctive texture and character.
Whether folded at the foot of a bed, draped over a chair, or displayed as a textile accent, it brings warmth, colour, and authentic French country charm to an interior. Its reversible design offers versatility, making it equally suited to traditional and contemporary homes.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
