This evocative hand-wrought iron chandelier, dating to the 18th or 19th century, was originally crafted either as a well pulley or a butcher’s crown for hanging. Its robust structure consists of broad iron bands joined with heavy rivets, from which descend chains supporting multiple hooks. Later cleverly adapted into a candle chandelier, it features added bobeches on each hook to hold 20 candles, transforming it into a striking suspension piece.
The iron surface has developed a rich rust-brown patina with areas of oxidation, giving the object depth, texture, and historic presence. Today, this chandelier adds an arresting and atmospheric focal point when lit with candles. Hung in a dining room, entryway, rustic kitchen, or outdoors for alfresco gatherings, it brings sculptural character and a sense of drama.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
