This elegant Provençal mirror from the Régence period (circa 1715–1723) is a beautifully preserved example of southern French craftsmanship, blending the grandeur of late Baroque ornament with the emerging lightness and curves of the Rococo style. Finely carved from wood and finished in its original gilt, the frame is richly decorated with motifs that reflect both refinement and regional character. The arched crest is crowned by a finely sculpted basket overflowing with flowers and foliage, flanked by pierced scrollwork and gently curving arches that create a sense of fluid movement and visual lightness. The sides and base are adorned with stylized floral and foliate carvings, framed by volutes and openwork detailing that lend the piece a lacy, architectural feel. Slender mirrored parcloses encase the original mercury glass, which has developed soft foxing over time—imbuing the reflection with a poetic, timeworn atmosphere that enhances the mirror’s historic charm.

This mirror is a highly versatile statement piece that brings both character and elegance to a range of interiors. Its graceful proportions and luminous patina make it ideal for anchoring a fireplace in a sitting room, adding a sense of height and grandeur without overwhelming the space. In an entryway, it creates a welcoming focal point full of charm and sophistication. Its gentle curves and delicate carvings also lend themselves beautifully to romantic bedrooms, dressing rooms, or powder rooms.
