A petite Provençal early 19th century painted corner fallfront desk in the Louis XV taste. The unusual triangular form was designed to nest neatly into a corner, making it both practical and visually distinctive. The serpentine case stands on graceful cabriole legs above a shaped apron carved with floral garlands and acanthus. The surface retains its original hand painted finish in a soft café au lait tone with deep blue reserves and trim. At the center of the fallfront is an oval cartouche bearing a delicate monogram surrounded by a wreath of leaves, lending the piece a personal and decorative touch. The fallfront opens to reveal a warm fruitwood interior fitted with small drawers and a worn green writing surface. The front drawer conceals an additional surprise. When removed it reveals two small hidden drawers tucked behind it, ideal for concealing letters, jewelry, or other private keepsakes. This well-proportioned desk retains its original painted surface, now softly worn with nicks, edge scuffs, and small losses that reveal a rich, authentic patina.
