This decorative wrought-iron panel features a lovely floral composition, with slender stems rising from a stylized urn and opening into an arrangement of flowers and graceful scrolling tendrils. The ironwork is assembled with small metal collars, and enclosed within a double rectangular frame. Its original purpose is uncertain, although it may once have served as a window grille or architectural partition. Interestingly, the panel is decorative on both sides, each with a different finish. One has a dark, timeworn patina with traces of lighter paint and some surface oxidation, while the reverse retains a warmer gold-toned finish, with areas of wear revealing the metal beneath.
The delicate, flowing design gives this piece a romantic quality, while its openwork construction keeps it visually light. It could be incorporated into an interior partition or room divider, or mounted in front of a window where the light can pass through the scrollwork. Alternatively, it can be hung directly from its frame above an entry console or against a contrasting wall in a garden room. It could be repainted to complement an interior color scheme, or left as is for those who appreciate its beautifully aged patina.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
