This early 20th century coffee or chocolate pot from Dieulefit, southeastern France, has the quiet presence of a well loved kitchen piece. Wheel thrown earthenware with a sandy buff body, it carries a rich, mottled brown glaze that pools in soft waves around the ribbed shoulder and cylindrical body. The domed lid with a rounded finial survives, a charming and uncommon detail that completes the form. Dieulefit has a long tradition of robust household pottery, valued for practical shapes and resilient glazes, and this example reflects that heritage. In good, timeworn condition with small glaze losses, light scuffs, and a stable hairline near the lower body, consistent with age and use.
Set it on open shelves in a country kitchen, where its earthy hues enhance wood and stone surfaces. The tactile glaze and genuine form evoke rustic charm while fitting seamlessly into contemporary spaces.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
