Tall and elegantly spare, this grand coat stand in rich mahogany is likely English and early 20th century. Three square fluted uprights rise from a circular plinth and end in a stable tripod of splayed feet, the shafts meeting a round collar crowned by a well turned urn finial. Four large scrolled brass hooks encircle the top, while three smaller brass hooks are set at mid height for lighter garments or walking sticks and umbrellas.
The mahogany shows a deep reddish brown tone with a hand rubbed sheen, the brass with a mellow patina. In very good condition, with gentle surface wear consistent with age. A handsome solution for a foyer, mudroom, or back hall, it brings height and warmth to an entry while keeping daily layers within easy reach. The small footprint suits apartment vestibules and townhouses alike, and the two tiers of hooks accommodate coats, scarves, bags, and hats. Its sculptural silhouette and polished mahogany can lend quiet character to both traditional and transitional interiors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
