A wide early 20th-century French workshop cupboard in pine, with four tall paneled doors set above a low plinth base and a simple cornice. It retains its old weathered white paint, softly worn to reveal the warm wood and tool marks beneath. The interior is divided into two sections, one with fixed shelves and the other with adjustable shelves on side cleats. Several shelves preserve faint handwritten inscriptions such as “potassium” and “zinc,”suggesting use in a pharmacy or laboratory. Fitted with iron hinges and keyholes, the doors swing smoothly, and the piece stands solid though shallow in depth, with paint losses and edge wear consistent with long workshop use. Its modest proportions, shallow form, and straightforward joinery reflect utilitarian craftsmanship built for efficiency, yet full of quiet presence.
Its generous width and honest surface offer ample storage and authentic character. In a kitchen or pantry, it can hold linens, cookware, or serving pots, while in a garden room it neatly conceals empty planters and tools. In an entryway or mudroom, it serves beautifully as a shoe cabinet, providing generous hidden storage and adding texture to whitewashed walls and concrete floors.
