Richly decorated and full of exotic charm, this elegant table lamp combines Imari style porcelain with refined European gilt bronze mounts. The subtly ribbed baluster shaped body is decorated in deep cobalt blue, iron red, and white, characteristic of Japanese Imari ware, while delicate touches of turquoise within the floral medallions add a rarer and particularly decorative nuance to the palette.
Mounted on an ornate gilt bronze base, the lamp brings together Eastern inspiration and classical European taste in a wonderfully decorative composition. The porcelain vase was likely originally produced for export to Europe, where Japanese Imari wares enjoyed enormous popularity among collectors and decorators. It was later transformed into a lamp with the addition of an ornate gilt bronze base and electrical fittings.
The lamp remains in very good overall condition with beautifully preserved decoration and a warm aged patina to the metalwork. It is currently fitted for electricity and only requires a shade to complete the ensemble. We recommend that the electrical system be inspected and revised by a qualified electrician before use.
Elegant and atmospheric, this piece would bring a touch of exotic refinement and warmth to a living room, bedroom, or sophisticated layered interior.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
