A large early 20th-century oil on canvas depicting a sunlit Provençal landscape, inspired by a promenade around the Étang de Berre. A winding sandy path leads the eye through dry grasses and low shrubs toward rolling hills and distant water, capturing the quiet rhythm of Provençal countryside. At left, a rustic building with a warm terracotta roof anchors the composition, while a windswept pine bends gently toward the light. A tall, dark cypress stands in elegant contrast to the pale sky, reinforcing the unmistakable character of Provence. The brushwork is lively and textured, with expressive strokes that animate the grasses and foliage while preserving a sense of calm openness. The palette of soft ochres, sage greens, dusty blues, and warm earth tones evokes the dry warmth of Mediterranean light.

Signed at lower left and presented in an attractive gilt wooden frame finely engraved with a delicate foliate motif, the painting remains in good vintage condition, showing age-related craquelure and minor losses. It bears inscriptions on the reverse reading “L’Étang de Berre” and records that it was entrusted by its owner to the Galerie Charpentier in Paris for sale, a well regarded gallery active in the mid twentieth century and known for exhibiting leading modern artists as well as important private collections.
