This pair of French side chairs, circa 1900, is crafted in the Louis XV style with flat backs. The carved beechwood frames are painted a soft sage green with areas of paint loss that add authentic charm. The serpentine seat rails and cabriole legs are carved with foliate decoration, while a small floral cartouche crowns each top rail. The later upholstery is an ivory-ground floral textile in taupe tones, finished with brass nail-head trim. The fabric shows a few faint marks consistent with use. Their gentle palette and graceful lines make them highly versatile. The pair may flank a console in an entry, pull up to a petite guéridon in a sitting room, or be placed at the foot of a bed to soften a bedroom scheme. They harmonize effortlessly with Gustavian, French country, or restrained contemporary interiors, introducing contour and subtle color without adding visual weight.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
