This early to mid-20th century wrought iron lantern has a lyrical presence, its hand-forged scrolls and leafy accents framing panels of original colored textured stained glass. On each of the four side panes, jewel-toned ruby, amber, teal, yellow, and clear glass are arranged in a central diamond motif that shimmers as the light shifts. A clear glass pane at the base allows light to diffuse below and accommodates the placement of a candle within. A hinged front door opens to the interior, providing access for a candle or for future wiring. The iron retains a dark patina with scattered oxidation that adds to its antique charm.
Not currently electrified, the lantern features an open top and is best suited to a sheltered location where it remains protected from the elements. It may be professionally wired for use as a light fixture, or enjoyed in its present state as a sculptural accent or with a candle placed inside. Hung on a porch, in an entry hall, or along a corridor, it can cast a warm, welcoming glow once wired, or serve unlit as a jeweled decorative element. Its sculptural silhouette, textured glass, and timeworn finish bring character to a garden room, farmhouse mudroom, or coastal vestibule, adding color and old-world charm without overpowering the space.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
No electrical wiring included.
