This early to mid-20th-century earthenware kanti from Provence is a classic form of regional water vessel, closely related to the cruche but distinguished by its fully closed top. Hand-thrown with a rounded, gently tapering body, it features a robust arched handle and two opposing raised spouts: one traditionally used for filling and the other for pouring or drinking.
The upper part is finished in a soft cream-colored glaze, that transitions naturally into the warm buff clay below. The restrained palette gives the piece a calm, understated presence that feels both utilitarian and quietly elegant. The piece remains in very good condition, with minimal wear, including small glaze nicks at the spout lips and light surface marks consistent with age.
This kanti looks lovely on a kitchen shelf or dining room sideboard, where its mellow color and tactile surface pair beautifully with stone, wood, and linen for a subtle Mediterranean touch.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
