Early- to Mid-20th-Century French White-Painted Wrought-Iron Plant Stand - 52¾"x 28¾"

This French wrought-iron plant stand likely dates from the early to mid-20th century and has an unusually expressive, almost whimsical form. Three long, slender legs rise in sweeping curves from small scrolled feet, meeting beneath a narrow upper basket formed from a diamond-pattern metal lattice designed to hold a small flowerpot. Additional scrolls project from the frame at different heights and could be used to suspend small pots. The white-painted surface is weathered, with areas of oxidation and traces of the iron visible beneath, giving the piece a richly aged garden character. 

Its appeal lies in its unusual silhouette, with long curved lines and generous scrolls giving the stand a light, decorative character. The tiny basket at the top, intended for a small pot, creates a charming contrast with the broad, spreading footprint of the base. Planted with trailing greenery, it would become even more animated, with foliage echoing the movement of the ironwork. It works equally well indoors or out, bringing a playful vertical accent to the space. Note: The upper basket has no base and is designed to accommodate a very small vessel, no more than approximately 9cm in diameter (approximately 3½ inches.).
