A large, elegant, late 18th-century French rectangular mirror in the Louis XVI style, distinguished by its warm, luminous gilding and clear plate. The stepped giltwood frame is crisply carved with a continuous palmette frieze and fine beaded inner molding, all finished in mellow gold leaf. The mirror retains light, even age speckling, while gentle wear along the edges reveals touches of warm red bole and gesso beneath the gilding. The backboard has been replaced for stability.
Rooted in neoclassical taste, its measured geometry and restrained ornament speak to the precision and harmonious balance prized in late 18th-century French design. Traditionally water-gilded and selectively burnished, the surface catches the light with quiet elegance and subtle depth.
Whether leaned in an entry, placed above a mantel, or hung in a dressing room, it brings structure, brightness, and a serene French character to both classic and contemporary interiors.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
