Elegant French Country Commode in Green Paint and Parcel Gilt, 18th Century - 50½" x 24" x 32"

Raised on short cabriole legs terminating in softly scrolled feet, the piece features a straight front fitted with three long drawers framed by delicate parcel-gilt borders that glow beautifully against the rich deep green painted surface. The molded top with rounded front corners, paneled sides, and restrained bronze hardware, likely later replacements, lend the commode a refined simplicity, while the later deep green and gilt finish gives it a striking decorative presence. 

Particularly charming are the unusual rear feet, which echo the softly scrolled front legs rather than the simpler rear supports more commonly found on provincial commodes, revealing an added level of care in the original design. The commode remains in very good condition overall, with expected wear consistent with age and later restorations to the reverse, including replaced back panels.
