Handsome and well-proportioned, this late 19th or early 20th century French Louis XVI style leather banquette presents a refined rectangular silhouette with a high, firm seat. The carved hardwood frame, likely beech with a mahogany stain, features square corner blocks with roundels, a neat, sober seat rail, and tapered fluted legs ending in small turned feet. The upholstery is more recent, in deep charcoal leather, with a loose cushion discreetly secured by a hook-and-loop strip to prevent slipping. The leather is in very good condition with only light creasing, while the frame shows a timeworn patina with minor marks. In an entryway, the elevated and supportive seat is ideal for lacing shoes or setting down a bag while keeping the look tailored and composed. Placed at the foot of a bed, it lends a quiet neoclassical note and a practical surface for a throw or tray. It also works under a window, along a corridor, or paired with a console, bridging rustic and contemporary pieces with measured elegance.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
