Elegant French Side Table on Tall Tapered Legs c.1800 - 26½" x 19"

This elegant French walnut side table, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, circa 1800, has the restrained neoclassical lines associated with the Louis XVI and early Directoire periods. Its slender tapered legs support a simple rectangular top above a single frieze drawer, fitted with a small brass knob, likely a later replacement. The warm walnut has developed a mellow patina, with gentle variation in tone and scattered marks that add to its softly aged character. The underside has been recently restored with a replacement panel beneath the drawer.

Light and graceful in proportion, the table is particularly easy to place. It would work beautifully as a bedside table or beside an armchair, with a useful drawer to keep small essentials out of sight and enough surface for a lamp, books or a vase. Its restrained silhouette and warm walnut make it equally at home in a traditional interior or a more pared-back contemporary setting.
