Late 19th century Italian wall mirror with a rectangular walnut marquetry frame, the warm chestnut tones enlivened by diamond lozenge inlays. The veneer grain meets at the mitered corners, creating a subtle chevron effect. A slim ebonized inner slip borders the original glass, whose surface shows gentle age clouding and faint speckling that softens reflections. Nicely proportioned, it presents a quiet geometry and rich grain that suit both traditional and contemporary rooms. Condition is good and timeworn, with scattered edge wear to the frame and minor surface marks and scratches to the plate, all consistent with age and contributing to its authentic character, while the glass retains clear visibility.
This mirror brings warmth to an entry above a console and layers beautifully within a salon wall of drawings and small paintings. It is equally striking in a chic bathroom, where the walnut frame softens stone, tile, and polished fixtures with a note of quiet elegance. Its understated architecture complements plaster walls, limestone, and linen, adding authentic European character without visual heaviness.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
