An elegant 19th century writing table in fruitwood, probably cherrywood, distinguished by its graceful elongated Louis XV style lines and refined proportions. Raised on slender cabriole legs ending in delicate bronze sabots, the table has a remarkable lightness and fluidity. The scalloped apron further enhances the delicacy and movement of the piece. A discreet drawer with fitted compartments is tucked into one side, providing practical storage for writing implements and correspondence.
The top, framed by a molded wooden gallery, retains its original leather writing surface, richly patinated from decades of use. The leather displays a wonderfully nuanced surface with visible craquelure, scratches, and areas of wear that speak to the daily life of the piece while adding to its warmth and character. An embossed and gilded frieze surrounding the inset leather adds a subtle touch of sophistication.
Its graceful proportions make it ideal for a study nook, a bedroom writing corner, or as a hall table with a small lamp and a stack of books. The long, slender legs give the table exceptional visual lightness, though they also make it slightly wobbly, meaning it is better suited to lighter decorative objects and gentle use rather than heavy sculptures, substantial lamps, or intensive daily writing.
