A pair of Italian reflector mirrors from the 19th century, likely Northern Italy, carved in wood and finished with layered gilding that shifts between warm golden and cool silvery tones. Each frame features mirrored border panels surrounding the original glass plate, accented with neoclassical rosettes at the corners and an openwork urn crest highlighted with soft red details. Below, a removable forged iron two candle sconce with tulip shaped cups completes the composition. The surfaces show a beautifully atmospheric patina with mottling and deep foxing to the glass, gentle wear to the gilded finish, and oxidation to the iron sconces. One noticeable crack to a mirrored border panel.

These reflector mirrors were designed to brighten halls and salons by doubling the glow of candlelight. The mirrored border construction creates a jeweled frame of reflections that sparkles around the central plate. Lively gilded surfaces with touches of color add depth and visual richness, all visible here and softened by two centuries of use.

Ideal flanking a door or a mantel to bring symmetry and visual rhythm, the pair adds soft luminosity and quiet elegance to a space. Use them with beeswax tapers or have them electrified with faux candles to let the aged glass and softly shifting gilded tones cast a warm old world glow.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
